For Japanese Returning From Study Abroad

Application Eligibility

Japanese nationals who fall under any of the following categories:

(1)
A person who, enrolled at a high school outside Japan for not less than one year and a half, is expected to graduate from the school or graduated from it less than a year previously.
(2)
A person who, enrolled at a high school outside Japan for not less than a year, has attended a Japanese high school for less than a year since returning home. A person who graduated in September 2007 or is expected to graduate in March 2008.
(3)
A person who is at least 18 years of age and who was awarded an International Baccalaureate overseas by the International Baccalaureate Secretariat, a foundation under the Swiss Civil Code.
(4)
A person who is at least 18 years of age and who was awarded an Abitur, acknowledging qualification for admission to a university in any state in the Federal Republic of Germany.
(5)
A person who is at least 18 years of age and who possesses a Baccalaureate acknowledging qualification for admission to a university in the French Republic.

  • Application eligibility is not granted to those who have graduated from (completed) or are expected to graduate from (complete) a course at one of the Japanese overseas educational institutions accredited by the Ministry of Education of Japan as possessing a course equivalent to that taught at a Japanese senior high school,
  • A person who has received less than 12 years of education by being moved ahead a year at school shall obtain a certificate issued by the educational institution for submission.

NOTE: All courses except the Japan Studies Program and English programs in the Graduate School of Economics are conducted in Japanese

Examination Subjects

  • Foreign language 100 marks/50 minutes

    (essay writing in a foreign language other than Japanese)

  • Essay writing (in Japanese) 50 marks/50 minutes

  • Interview

Only applicable to the School of Human and Social Sciences

Previously, international students who wanted to enroll had to take a screening examination conducted by the University. Effective from 2001, this procedure changed, requiring candidates to be screened through a paper examination. Applicants have only to send written applications to the University from their country of residence. This step will leave the door
wide open for international students to enroll.
