Purposes of Study

Under current circumstances in which economic activities such as fl ows of products and money themselves play a major role in driving society, economic science must provide the skills and techniques to create a better society through an objective assessment of our life. After learning the basics of economics in freshman year, the students can proceed to the Department of Economics, where a wide range of subjects is available to nurture human resources capable of playing a major role at the forefront. The students can learn the mechanism of economic activities systematically, thus acquiring the expertise and practical capabilities to apply their skills in various fi elds.

Points of Study

Improving expertise through fi ve majors in two courses

The students who proceed to the Department of Economics select one of
fi ve majors in two courses. By studying various specialized fi elds centered
on mandatory subjects, the students acquire a broad outlook and substantial
expertise.

Subjects that help students nurture the knowledge on realities of economic problems

There have been dynamic changes in our economy such as fi nancial anxiety,
pension problems, or aging population with low birth rate. In this department,
students nurture the skills to see the realities of economic society.

A sub-seminar system that expands the students' specialized areas

The students in the two departments in the School of Economics take a
mandatory seminar each year, and can also choose to take an additional
seminar (sub seminar) if desired. The system helps you to expand your fi elds
of study, thus nurturing a multilateral way of thinking.

Steps in Four years

Step1, 1st and 2nd semesters

Acquire the basics of economics by studying subjects common to all departments

Step2, 3rd semester

Direct students toward their major based on the study of specialized subjects

Step3, 4th and 5th semesters

Select a course out of five majors in two courses and expand specialized knowledge on economics while pursuing study in accordance with the students’ own career options

Step4, 6th,7th,and 8th semesters

Strengthen theoretical and practical capabilities, cultivating the comprehensive power to play a major role in the real world


Theories and History Course (2 majors)

Economic Theory
This course is designed for students to study current economic theories on a systematic basis, from the basics to applications, nurturing the skills of true fi nancial experts in order for them to play a major role in various fields.
History and Ideas
By learning the history of economics, philosophy, ethics, history of social thought, etc., the essence of economics is extracted to view contemporary economic society from a comprehensive standpoint.

Contemporary Economy Course (3 majors)

Public Policy
This course helps students accurately understand the balance of the market and government roles in order to nurture those who can propose political solutions to social problems such as budget defi ciency or issues regarding the economic gap and depopulation.
Financial Economy
The students in this course study thoroughly the fl ow of money that keeps the economy and society going, and the structures of banking systems.
Politics and Society
This course is designed for students to build up the ability to analyze the current socioeconomic and industrial structures from the viewpoint of politics, laws, etc., thus acquiring the capability to make accurate judgments in various fi elds for policy planning.

A semester system allowing students to study in steps

The two departments in the School of Economics adopted a complete semester system in 2007. Since every subject is completed in a single semester, the students can select their subjects of study according to their interest, levels, and majors. They can also pursue their learning while electing subjects each semester to develop expertise from the basics in stages.

A substantial support system for civil-service examinations

Another feature of this department is the substantial support system for students, who hope to become national or local public employees. Through basic lectures for the preparation of civil service examinations, general and specialized lectures, and simulation tests, the course helps you to obtain qualifications for the future.
