April 14 - Orientation

  2. What is your interest in taking Duell's Cultural Anthropology class?

April 28 - Hand in typed report in English about:

  1. Why do you think sweetpotato was used instead of another material to make dog chews? (give your reasons)

May 5 - Children's Day (no class)

May 12 - The First Vienna Vegetable Orchestra (instrument pictures) (sample music 1 2):

  1. Hand in a typed report in English about music created with vegetables
  2. Prepare one or more vegetable musical instruments to demonstrate in class (you may perform together with a friend)

May 19 - Last Meal

  1. The death penalty is used in the USA. What do you think about Texas posting death row convicts' personal information?
  2. What do you think about the last meals chosen by these convicts?
  3. If you had a choice, what would your last meal be? Why?

May 26 - Nutraloaf and Inmate Discipline

  1. What do you think about the use of nutraloaf for disciplining inmates?
  2. Are inmates disciplined with food in your country? (How?, or, What would be a suitable way to do so?)

June 2 - African-American Cooking (present your report to the class)

  1. What impressions do you have from watching the video?
  2. What new things did you learn about African-American cooking?

June 9 - Baltimore Ravens, an American Football Team (present your report to the class)

Fans watching a sports competition get hungry and thirsty. Describe the food product you would design to sell to fans during the games. Take advantage of:

  1. The team color (hint: look carefully at the main color of the team's website pages),
  2. The season the games are held, and so on.

June 16 - Visit Kawagoe Sweetpotato Museum by TIU bus.

June 23 - Student presentations about sweetpotato based on Kawagoe Sweetpotato Museum visit:

June 30 - Student presentations: Free theme related to food culture in your own country, the USA, and/or Japan.

July 7 - Final Exam (written essay test)
