Photo: Six Duell TIU students at TIU of America with Prof. Barry Duell,
TIUA administrators, faculty, and student mentors.
This tour was an outgrowth of the Hands
Across the Water joint project being conducted by Prof. Wayne
Gregory, TIUA, and Prof. Barry Duell,
TIU.
TIU students from past and present Duell Freshman Tutorials visited TIU
of America in Salem, Oregon, USA, from September 9 to 20, 1996. This time
period was chosen: 1. To give the students a chance to see in session TIU's
branch campus TIUA, and TIU's sister university, Willamette University,
located adjacent to TIUA, 2. To avoid missing any TIU classes by taking
advantage of the last days of the TIU summer break.
The six participants were two current Duell tutorial students, and two students
each from the '95 and '94 Duell tutorials. The current Duell tutorial students
are involved with the Hands Across the Water Project from April to November
1996.
Two important objectives of the Duell Tour to TIUA were:
1. For each TIU visitor to shadow a TIUA counterpart to experience firsthand
a student's perspective of what life at TIUA and WU is like. The TIUA mentors
were students from TIUA Prof. Wayne Gregory's tutorial classes who had been
in Part I of the Hands Across the Water Project.
2. For the TIU visitor's to experience life in Salem by staying with Salem
families during their visit. Students were placed one per family.
