TIU Thailand Office Opening Reception
On Friday, February 9th, Tokyo International University held the opening reception for its Thailand Office. Prolific government officials, principals, teachers, and parents of TIU students gathered together in celebration of the continued collaborative efforts of Thailand and Japan.
In addition, a Kagami Biraki or "breaking of the sake cask" was performed in celebration of the momentous occasion. This cultural tradition symbolizes a new beginning and rightfully often takes place on New Year's Day, at wedding ceremonies, the opening of new offices or companies, and even at the start of a sports season. The aroma of the sake within the cask encompasses the atmosphere of the hall, which will bring a lasting 'peace', 'good fortune', and 'good health' for all. The following toast was conducted by Mr. Shigeki Kobayashi, Counsellor and Director of the Japan Information Service from the Embassy of Japan in Thailand.
Amongst the many presenters of the event was TIU President Hiroshi Takahashi, the Dean of English Track - Professor Akitoshi Miyashita, and senior TIU student and President of the Model United Nations Varsity Team - Wichuta Teeratanabodee. This event delivered a wealth of information about study abroad in Japan at TIU in its one-of-a-kind, multicultural English classes.
