Study Abroad Stories: Mavy from Russia

Hi! My name is Mavy, short for "Mavluda", and I'm a 3rd year student studying Business Economics at TIU from Russia. Last summer I decided to apply for ISEP and do an exchange program in my 2nd semester this year at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia.

The reason why I applied for this program was very simple: I love traveling around the world and experiencing new things. Why did I decide to go to Australia? Well, I've already been to different countries in Europe (England, Spain), Asia (China, South Korea, Japan), Turkey, and the USA, but Australia was still one of the countries on my "places to visit" list. Another reason of choosing Australia was that this is an English-speaking country, so it would be easy to understand people around me, and it also felt safe.

Picking Australia as a country to study through ISEP was the first step, but the second step was to choose the university to study at. After a lot of thought and research, I finally decided to choose La Trobe. Again the question: Why? Well, La Trobe is one of the best universities in Victoria (ranked 3rd) and it has a lot of campuses around Australia as well. One of the biggest campuses of La Trobe is located in Melbourne (Bundoora campus), where I'm currently studying. I've been here for almost 2 months and I already fell in love with this place. Bundoora campus is very huge and it's so different from TIU (teaching style, university clubs, university culture, international environment, and so on). I experienced so many new things here that I'm excited to bring back to TIU when I finish the semester abroad.

Overall, I would say that this exchange program gives you so many opportunities and experiences to have while you are studying at university. In the two months I've been living here, I am already meeting new people and making friends, getting used to a new culture, trying new things (like food that I've never had before), challenging myself, learning new methods of teaching, and the list goes on! My suggestion to people, who are thinking of applying for ISEP is: "Go for it!" When I was thinking whether to do it or not I had no idea how fun it would be.

We only live once and the different stages of life are molded by these experiences. Being a student is a time full of energy and willingness to try new things you may not get the chance to do again. Having so many experiences while studying abroad is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will give you so many fun stories to tell for the rest of your life!
