Dr. Rajarshi Mitra completed his B.A. (Honors) in Economics in 2000 with distinction (ranked First in First-Class) and M.A. in Economics in 2002 (First-Class) at Visva-Bharati University, India. He completed his Ph.D in Economics in 2009 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, U.S.A.
Dr. Mitra has taught a wide range of graduate and undergraduate Economics courses to international students in the United States, Japan, the Russian Federation, and P. R. China. As a graduate student of Economics in the United States, he held faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and Marquette University. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he was appointed Faculty Mentor for the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Scholars Program in summer 2009. After completing his Ph.D program, Dr. Mitra was appointed full-time Lecturer of Economics in the Global 30 International Graduate Program in Economics at Kyushu University in Japan (2010-2014). He was a Visiting Scholar in the Centre of African Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, U. K. in summer 2014. Subsequently, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Economics at National Research University Higher School of Economics in the Russian Federation (2014-2017), Assistant Professor of Economics at Reading Academy, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (October 2017 – April 2018) and Associate Professor of Economics at Reading Academy, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (May 2018 – August 2018). He is presently appointed Associate Professor of Economics with tenure in the Institute for International Strategy, Tokyo International University, Japan. During his term at Reading Academy, on recommendation from the Head of the School of Politics, Economics and International Relations, Dr. Mitra was granted the honorary title of “Recognized Teacher of the University (NUIST)”.
Dr. Mitra has taught graduate level courses in Microeconomics, International Economics, Industrial Organization, and Mathematical Economics. At the advanced undergraduate level, he has taught International Trade and Finance, Money and Banking, Managerial Economics, Financial Institutions and Markets, Economic Statistics, Time Series Econometrics, and Economics of Social Policy. His research interests are outsourcing and FDI, economic growth and development, foreign exchange, and international trade policy. As the sole Principal Investigator, he has received research support from the Korea Economic Institute of America in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. and from the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy-Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India. Dr. Mitra has published more than 20 scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Applied Economics, Open Economies Review, International Review of Economics and Finance, Economic Analysis and Policy, World Development Perspectives, The Journal of Developing Areas, and Economics Bulletin. He has also contributed a chapter in a book volume On Korea published by the Korea Economic Institute of America, U.S.A. His op-ed articles and debate writings have appeared in the Gulf News. Apart from being the Associate Editor of Theoretical Economics Letters published by Scientific Research Publishing Inc., U.S.A. and the Journal of Asian Development published by Macrothink Institute, U.S.A., Dr. Mitra is a member of the editorial board of several other peer-reviewed journals.
