As a TIU student, living in the greater Tokyo area provides you with numerous options of entertainment when you want to take a break from your studies and enjoy life with your friends.
Whether it's shopping, eating out, exploring nature, hiking, bowling, sports, cinema or karaoke, Tokyo is the entertainment hub of Japan, and TIU students have easy access to all parts of Tokyo with just a train ride!
Close to campus you will find various shopping streets and department stores filled with shops and restaurants. Cera Mall, LaLaport, MI PLAZA, EQUIA & Maruhiro all offer great shopping opportunities in a close proximity to Kawagoe where our campus is located. You will be able to find anything from clothing, interior to toys/games, cosmetics, film/music and books. Moreover, most of these areas/malls also have food courts, restaurants and large-scale supermarkets that can satisfy even the pickiest shopper.
Tokyo offer some of the most popular festivals year round. Especially the summer months are full of "Hanabi Taikai", which are firework display events held in various areas across the country. You will find many attendees dressing up in a traditional Japanese Yukata, which is worn by many in the summer season. One of the most popular fireworks festivals in Tokyo is the Sumidagawa River Fireworks Festival, which dates back to 1733 and is held every year in July with over 950.000 attendees in 2019.
It goes without saying that Tokyo is filled with tourist attractions. Some of our most famous are Tokyo Disney World & Tokyo Disney Sea, which is just a 1.5 hour train ride away from campus! Other famous top attractions include FujiQ, Yomiuriand, Toshimaen, Tokyo Dome City, Tokyo Joypolis, Tokyo Trick Art Museum, TeamLab Art Museum & many more. Other famous sights include Asakusa, Meiji Jingu, Tokyo Sky Tree, Tokyo Tower, Odaiba, Tsukiji Market etc.
Near campus you will find several establishments offering Karaoke, which is one of the most popular pastimes in Japan. At LaLaPort in Fujimino students can catch a movie with their friends in the famous TOHO Cinema. Game centers with unlimited UFO-catches, games and other activities are also to be found in the nearby area. In Ikebukuro, located roughly 35 min. by train from Campus, students will be able to enjoy bowling, ping pong, billiard, darts, roller-skating and other indoor activities at the famous Round1. Furthermore, Ikebukuro offers museums, an aquarium, a planetarium, an indoor amusement park and tons of other activities.
