Announcement on the cancellation of the 2020 Spring Tokyo International University Graduation Ceremony

We sincerely congratulate everyone who will graduate from Tokyo International University this year.

As graduates, you are at the best stage of your life as you have studied earnestly to prepare for your journey to life in society as a virus outbreak is occurring.

It is no exaggeration to say that we are at a critical stage in our role as humans in how we defend against the new coronavirus, which is reported to be spreading worldwide. In such an emergency, the University has had difficulty determining whether or not to hold our graduation ceremony.

However, on February 25, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology sent an administrative memorandum stating that all measures be taken to “prevent the spread of infection.” In light of this, the University has recognized that holding a graduation ceremony would be challenging.

Considering the anticipation which all graduates, family members, and loved ones have been awaiting this graduation ceremony, there is deep sadness to be felt at this time.

However, considering the dignity of human life, we are truly sorry to say that we, Tokyo International University, have to make the agonizing decision to cancel this spring’s graduation ceremony.

We ask for your understanding and pray for your success and prosperity.
